Renowned soul and R&B singer Angie Stone tragically passed away at the age of 63 following a car accident in Montgomery, Alabama. The incident occurred early Saturday morning after she had performed in the city.
Born Angela Brown in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone’s illustrious career spanned over four decades. She began her musical journey in the late 1970s as a member of The Sequence, one of the pioneering female hip-hop groups, known for their hit “Funk You Up.” Transitioning to a solo career, her debut album “Black Diamond” in 1999 featured notable tracks like “No More Rain (In This Cloud).” Her 2001 album “Mahogany Soul” included the acclaimed song “Wish I Didn’t Miss You.”
Throughout her career, Stone collaborated with artists such as D’Angelo, Lenny Kravitz, and Erykah Badu. She earned three Grammy nominations and appeared in films like “The Hot Chick” and “Ride Along.”
Stone is survived by her daughter, Diamond Stone, and her son, Michael D’Angelo Archer II, whom she shared with fellow singer D’Angelo. Her legacy as a trailblazer in the music industry remains influential, inspiring countless artists and fans worldwide.
