Country music star Morgan Wallen has clarified the circumstances surrounding his unexpected departure from the March 29, 2025, episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL), where he served as the musical guest.
During the show’s customary closing segment, Wallen exited the stage immediately after a brief exchange with host Mikey Madison, foregoing the traditional on-stage farewells with the cast. This departure sparked speculation and became a topic of discussion online.
In a recent interview on the “Sundae Conversation” podcast, Wallen addressed the incident, stating that his early exit was not due to any issues with the SNL cast or production. He explained, “I was just ready to go home,” emphasizing that he had spent the entire week in New York for rehearsals and was eager to return home after the performance.
Following the show, Wallen posted a photo on Instagram of his private jet with the caption “Get me to God’s country,” which some interpreted as a slight against New York City or the SNL experience. However, Wallen has since downplayed any negative connotations, attributing the post to his desire to return home.
SNL cast member Kenan Thompson commented on the situation, describing Wallen’s departure as “a spike in the norm” and noting that the lack of explanation made it more noticeable.
Despite the controversy, Wallen has capitalized on the moment by releasing merchandise featuring the phrase “Get me to God’s country.” Additionally, he is set to release his new album, I’m the Problem, on May 16.
