Billy Joel reassures fans: ‘I’m not dying’ despite brain disorder diagnosis
American singer Billy Joel (76) has reassured his fans after announcing his diagnosis with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a rare brain disorder that affects his hearing, vision and balance. Speaking to radio host Howard Stern, Joel stressed: “I’m not dying.”
NPH is a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid puts pressure on the brain, which can lead to cognitive problems and motor dysfunction. Joel is currently undergoing physical therapy and following medical advice, which has resulted in the cancellation of all his scheduled concerts through July 2026.
Although Joel canceled his appearance at the Tribeca premiere of his documentary, “Billy Joel: And So It Goes,” he remains optimistic about his recovery. His wife, Alexis Roderick, and daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, have been vocal in their support and emphasize his resilience.
Joel has thanked his fans for their understanding and support during this time and hopes to return to the stage in the future. He remains determined and looks forward to a full recovery.
