Bruce Springsteen, the legendary “Born to Run” rocker, is opening up about his complicated relationship with fame—and how he learned not to let it define him.

In a candid new interview, The Boss described fame as “a cool thing” in the early days of his career, but one he quickly realized he didn’t want forever. “At first, it’s exciting. People know your name, they sing your songs. But after a while, you start to wonder what part of you still belongs just to yourself,” Springsteen shared.

Known for his gritty authenticity and down-to-earth persona, Springsteen said he’s always strived to keep his private life separate from his public image. “Fame can be loud. I’ve always needed a place to be quiet,” he said.

Despite decades in the spotlight, the 74-year-old rock icon says staying grounded was key to his longevity. “The trick is to hold on to who you were before the lights found you,” he explained.

With a career spanning more than 50 years, multiple Grammys, and a legion of devoted fans, Springsteen proves you can be a superstar without losing yourself in the noise.
