December 8, 2025 – Radio 854 Music News:
At a recent pop-up event hosted by Spotify, Ed Sheeran addressed speculation about his marriage sparked by the emotional intensity of recent songs — insisting that raw honesty, not real turmoil, drives his writing.
The deluxe edition of his latest album Play (Deluxe) — released in late 2025 — includes songs like Regrets, War Games and Problems, whose lyrics sparked widespread speculation that Ed was revealing marital problems. Some fans interpreted lines such as “Flowers in our garden are dying … we have problems, and we don’t know how to solve them” as a sign of relationship trouble.
During the Spotify event, Ed explained that he doesn’t write songs on “ordinary days.” Instead, he draws on “big extremes” — the happiest, angriest or most loving feelings — to create music. He said these emotions fuel songs, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they reflect ongoing reality.
As he put it:
“You never write a song on a ‘meh’ day… you always write songs like ‘This is the most loving I’ve ever felt, this is the happiest I’ve ever felt, this is the angriest I’ve ever felt.’”
He also emphasised that his wife — Cherry Seaborn — understands his creative process, knowing he writes about both the highs and lows. According to Ed, she doesn’t fixate on the darker songs because there are also tracks where he celebrates their love and happiness.
Part of the context behind these honest songs is the pressure of his recent world tours. The deluxe album references the strain of being away from his wife and two daughters Lyra Antarctica Sheeran and Jupiter Seaborn Sheeran during long spells on the road.
Ed revealed that he’s now aiming for a different balance: fewer long tours, more time with family and possibly even building a personal venue to host shows — so he doesn’t have to sacrifice home life for his career.
For fans and followers, Ed Sheeran’s message is clear: “Honest lyrics” don’t necessarily signal crisis — they’re a creative outlet. The songs on Play (Deluxe) show his willingness to reflect on hard moments, but he doesn’t want listeners to assume those songs define his present-day life.
In his own words — and through his efforts to reshape his work-life balance — Ed seems committed to honesty in art and stability at home.
