Sabrina Carpenter slammed by PETA for using live bird in Grammys performance

Sabrina Carpenter’s show-stopping performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards has become one of the night’s most talked-about moments — and not just for her music. The 26-year-old pop star is drawing criticism from animal rights advocates after incorporating a live white bird into her performance of Manchild at the Grammys in Los Angeles.

Carpenter, who delivered an airport-themed performance of her hit song on the Grammy stage at Crypto.com Arena, concluded her act by pulling a white dove from a magician’s hat and holding it as she looked out at the crowd. While many fans praised the theatrics and energy of her set, the use of a live animal drew immediate condemnation from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

In a social media statement, PETA blasted the decision, writing:

“Hey Sabrina. Bringing a live bird onto the Grammys stage is stupid, slow, useless, and cruel. Bright lights, loud noise, and handling cause fear and distress for a bird who belongs flying free in the open sky.”

The animal rights organisation also accused Carpenter of “childlike behavior” for bringing an animal into such a high-energy environment and urged artists to leave animals out of live performances.

While Carpenter has yet to publicly respond to the backlash, the controversy has divided fans online — with some defending her creative vision and others agreeing with PETA’s concerns about animal welfare.
