May 28, 2026 – Radio 854 Music News:
Becky Hill has opened up about the deeply personal themes behind her upcoming third studio album Rebecca, revealing that creating the record “felt like a form of BDSM”.
The British hitmaker is preparing to release the album on September 25, and says the project explores the emotional tension between pleasure and pain. Speaking to NME, Hill explained that the meaning of her birth name inspired the concept behind the record.
“Rebecca means ‘to tie’ or ‘to bind’,” she said. “I’ve known that since I was a little girl, and I’ve always thought it was a weird thing for a name to mean. But this album has very much felt like a form of BDSM.”
Hill added that the album reflects how passion and pain can often become intertwined, especially in relationships, fame, and ambition.
“There’s a lot of that contrast between pleasure and pain,” she explained, noting that people can sometimes become attached to difficult experiences because of how much they care about something.
The singer also revealed that the record includes songs inspired by her marriage, the pressures of fame, and the emotional highs and lows of being a pop star. Opening track Tie Me Down reportedly reimagines the idea of marriage in a more powerful and sensual way.
Musically, Hill says she drew inspiration from bands and artists including Blur, The Prodigy, and Pendulum, giving the album a stronger punk and band-driven sound compared to her earlier dance-pop releases.
Hill rose to fame after appearing on The Voice UK and has since become one of the UK’s biggest dance-pop stars, scoring multiple chart hits and Brit Award wins.
