October 6, 2025 – Radio 854 Music News:
Pop artist Charli XCX appears to be deep in the studio, working on what would be her seventh studio album, even as fans and media stir over her possible feud with Taylor Swift.
Collaborator Finn Keane recently revealed that he and Charli are “kind of deep in it now,” referring to the writing and production process for her next record. While details remain scarce — no tracklist or timeline has been confirmed — it’s clear Charli is pushing forward creatively.
This upcoming project will follow her 2024 album Brat, which featured the controversial track “Sympathy Is a Knife” — a song fans widely speculated may have taken aim at Taylor Swift.
Tensions reportedly escalated after Taylor’s new song “Actually Romantic”, from The Life of a Showgirl, included lines that many listeners interpreted as a response to Charli’s earlier track. Some of the more pointed lyrics include:
“I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave … Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face.”
Taylor later explained that “Actually Romantic” is about discovering someone’s long-term fixation: “someone else has kind of had a one-sided, adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about.”
Charli, meanwhile, shared a cryptic short video from a studio session, hinting at her response—musical or otherwise. But she hasn’t explicitly confirmed she’s writing a “diss track.”
For Charli, this is a moment of dual pressures: creating new, compelling music — potentially under the glare of public expectation — while navigating the narrative swirl around her and Swift.
Some things to watch as the project unfolds:
Tone and direction: Will her next album lean into confrontation, introspection, or something completely new?
Timing: Will she respond quickly to Showgirl or wait to let the album speak for itself?
Support & collaborations: Given her past work with Finn Keane and other producers, the team behind the album could give clues to its sonic direction.
The next Charli XCX release is not just another album — it may serve as a chapter in one of pop’s most talked-about artist dynamics this fall.
We might hear direct or indirect references to the Swift situation in new songs — ripe material for “Behind the Lyrics” segments.
Fans of pop culture drama will certainly follow — and so will radio audiences.
