“It just poured out,” Clarkson said. “I wrote it in maybe 20 minutes. It was one of those emotional moments where the song just wrote itself.”

The ballad, which appears on her 2015 album of the same name, became an emotional anthem for many fans thanks to its raw honesty about family, healing, and hope. Clarkson has performed it in some of her most memorable live moments, including a tearful performance on American Idol that went viral.

The singer explained that the lyrics came during a late-night writing session where she was reflecting on her father, her husband at the time, and becoming a parent herself.

“I wasn’t even trying to write a song that night—it just happened,” she shared.
