Melanie C Reveals First Solo Album in Six Years — Welcome Back, Sweat

In exciting news for pop fans everywhere, former Spice Girls member Melanie C has announced her return to the solo spotlight with her first full-length solo release in six years. The album, titled Sweat, is set for release on 1 May 2026 via Virgin Music Group.
The lead single and title track, “Sweat,” is already available to stream. It leans into disco-pop territory, sampling Diana Ross’s 1982 track “Work That Body”, and infuses vintage workout video energy into a modern dance-pop sound.
Melanie described Sweat as a “joyful record” released “in a very dark time” — a celebration of fun, community, movement, and escape.
Recording took place across London, Stockholm, and Los Angeles, embracing her evolution as both a pop singer and DJ.
Alongside the album announcement, she confirmed a headline show at O2 Academy Brixton in London on 23 October 2026, with tickets going on sale 24 October 2025.
Melanie’s last solo album was her self-titled project, Melanie C, released in October 2020. Since then, she’s been exploring her DJ identity, performing in clubs and at festivals, and gradually reimmersing herself in dance culture.
In an earlier interview, she revealed the new record is “done and ready to go,” signaling that this release has been years in the making. Collaborations with newer names, including female artists like Rose Gray and Uffie, were also hinted at.
Thematically, the album’s direction reflects her desire to bring joy, movement, and unity back to her music — especially in a moment where, she says, “there are so many horrific things going on in the world.”
To appreciate this return, it helps to briefly revisit her solo path:
Her 2020 Melanie C album became her highest-charting solo release since Reason (2003).
Over the years, she’s shifted stylistically, moving from pop/rock to more electronic, dance, and club-influenced sounds.
Her involvement as a DJ (including performances at Instagram club nights, Ibiza, and queer events) revitalized her connection to dance culture and likely influenced Sweat’s sonic direction.
And of course, the residual legacy of the Spice Girls continues to loom large — both as a point of nostalgia and underlying influence.
Expect Sweat to be full of dancefloor energy, uplifting beats, and a sense of catharsis.
The promotional phase will kick off today with a music video premiere for “Sweat” at 4 pm BST.
The Brixton show will likely be a major event for UK fans and may hint at further tour plans.
Speculation about a full Spice Girls reunion continues to swirl. Melanie has said she and Emma Bunton are “definitely” open to returning to the stage together, though other members remain less certain.
Interview opportunity: We could pitch interviewing Melanie or her team about the album’s inspiration, her evolution, and how she balances her DJ identity and pop legacy.
On-air feature: Preview “Sweat” next week and invite listeners to share what joy and movement mean to them.
Countdown segment: Launch a “30 Days to Sweat” countdown, spotlighting one track per day (if track list is revealed) or sharing her past hits to build excitement.
Final Thoughts
Melanie C’s Sweat marks a bold reemergence — not simply a nostalgic return, but a fully embodied embrace of dance, unity, and fun. After six years, she’s not coming back to reclaim past glories; she’s pushing forward. As we await more singles, visuals, and tour news, one thing is clear: the dance floor is calling.
