The name Schiffie originated a long time ago in kindergarten.
Because I was in the same class as three other Patricks, the teacher came up with nicknames
related to our surnames.
My surname is Schiffelers, and the abbreviation (nickname) became Schiffie.
Since then, almost everyone calls me Schiffie,
which is why I also chose the name Schiffie as my artist name.
I was born on August 29, 1976, in Heerlen.
Until I was 21, I lived mainly in the southeast of Dutch Limburg,
from birth onwards, mainly in Treebeek (Brunssum), at Engerstraat 22.
After my father’s death (September 6, 1997), who died of cancer, I moved to Heksenberg (Heerlen),
later back to Brunssum (own home), and then to Kerkrade
(all locations are in southeast Dutch Limburg). Then, on January 1, 2009, I met my current wife in Belgium
and went to live with her in Velm, a village in the Belgian Limburg province,
a village in the municipality of Sint-Truiden.
In 2019, I also lost my mother-in-law, “Nadia,” to cancer
and we moved to Nieuw Sint-Truiden, on the square of Tulpstraat.
I am now happily married to Kelly Willems since September 11, 2009.
And I have a daughter, Miley, who was born on February 17, 2010
and a son, Ilay, who was born on November 29, 2011.
How my love for the entertainment industry began:
Ever since I was a baby, I’ve had a microphone in my hands.
My father always wanted to record my young voice;
“For later,” he always said, “it’s fun.”
My father was also always involved in music;
My father often mixed cassette tapes for everyone,
also played at parties and events,
organized events (Stichting Muziekfestival Treebeek)
(SMT was the precursor to the idea of starting my own business);
and at Camping San-Lanaco (where we had a permanent pitch),
he arranged the entertainment in the canteen, booked bands and orchestras, etc.
He was also chairman of the neighborhood association Engerstraat-Engerplein (and surrounding areas),
chairman of the district committee, vice-chairman of the Treebeek Playground,
and vice-chairman of the Brunssum city festival committee.
For all this dedication, he received the title of Honorary Citizen of Brunssum in 1995.
He also received the Four-Leaf Clover pin, which represents this.
It was said that if I had stayed in Brunssum, I would have received the same honor.
Because my father always took me along, my love for the entertainment industry grew.
That’s when I started making music with a friend (Raymond van de Kuit “Mokkie”).
First on a Commodore Amiga and later on a PC.
And at 15, I went for the first time (still very/extremely shy at the time)
with my then girlfriend (who was 17 at the time) to the Peppermill disco in Heerlen.
Back then, I didn’t even know what it was like to go out or how to behave, and
I didn’t even know how to dance, what kind of music they played, etc.
Anyway, within 10 minutes I was dancing on the “blocks” (platform) with my girlfriend
and the spotlight was on me.
Suddenly everyone was looking at me and enjoying what I was doing, and I got some really positive reactions.
From that moment on, my true passion for dancing and entertainment began. So, I started going to discos regularly to dance.
I had already practiced a lot at home with dance moves and such.
I never took dance lessons myself, but I was often offered the opportunity to teach them!
When I finally finished school, the idea arose to start an entertainment company with my father: J & S Entertainment.
Unfortunately, my father passed away shortly after this idea (September 6, 1997), when I was just 21.
This meant I had to adjust my plans, but I still wanted to make this dream come true.
That’s why, together with Raymond van de Kuit, I founded $-M Productions on May 15, 1998.
The $ stood for Schiffie and the M for Mokkie (his nickname/DJ name).
We then started a drive-in show and my dance act. It wasn’t until 1999 that we expanded my acts and became able to arrange artists, bands, orchestras, and striptease acts through us,
at the request of various clients,
(who asked if we could arrange this or that person,
since we already had various contacts with various artists, bands, and striptease acts).
In 2000, Raymond quit for family reasons,
and I brought in someone else (Ton Verpoort) to continue running $-M Productions. Unfortunately, this went wrong (because of him), and $-M Productions closed down on
July 7, 2001.
But after saving up, “I was back in the groove,”
and I wanted to continue my father’s and my dream. That’s why I started Si-Entertainment (Group) on July 7, 2004 (exactly three years later).
Si now stands for Schiffie’s International.
Now I can fully enjoy the entertainment industry again!
Since the end of 2004, I’ve also regularly performed on DJ (Henri) Kicken’s shows.
I was able to do this until November 7, 2017, when I was no longer able to (due to medical reasons and various hernias).
With great regret, because I really loved doing this!
At the end of 2005, I sang “Alcoholic Party” by DJ Kicken on Idols 3 (Ain’t No Party Like An).
Fortunately, it was never broadcast, but only my dance act in the hall.
On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2005, I celebrated New Year’s Eve in the RTL4 and RTL5 TV studios.
During the taping of the Idols 3 Finale broadcast, where the 10 most talked-about contestants were allowed to perform again.
I was one of them, and during the last chorus, I was allowed to do my dance act with almost every camera focused on me!
In early 2006, I started creating my own dance productions.
At the end of 2006, I participated in X-Factor.
In early 2007, I started creating Party/Fuck/Après-Ski Music, which later became children’s hits.
This resulted in the first compilation release, La La Polonaise,
which was named the best Carnival hit of the 2006-2007 season by
the LVA (Limburg Carnival Awards);
for which I received an Award and a Certificate!
In early 2008, the first real (still physical) CD single was released!
Namely: “De Pinguïndans” (The Penguin Dance), which was available as a CD single in the Netherlands and Belgium.
In Belgium, “De Pinguïndans” reached number 12 in the Official Ultra Top 50 Charts,
and number 1 in the Flemish Top 30 for 8 weeks!!!
and number 39 in the second official charts of Germany, Austria, and England.
It took a while before record company BIP-Records Belgium released the next single,
which happened in 2011 with “De Papagaaientwist.”
Unfortunately, the hit didn’t materialize, and it only reached number 23 in the Dutch iTunes Top 100 Kids Category.
But that didn’t stop me from continuing.
In 2012, I started my own record company, S-Records.
Because BIP-Records Belgium would only release dance-related music
and therefore no Schiffie & Co. More music-like
I released a remake of Peter Koelewijn’s “Klap Maar In Je Handen” (Clap Your Hands),
called Schiffie & Co. – Zwaai Maar Met Je Handen (Wave Your Hands).
(with permission from Peter Koelewijn and his writers and composers/producers)
Shortly after the release, DJ Kicken came up with the idea of creating a Dutch version
of the mega-hit PSY – Gangman Style,
which at the time wasn’t quite in the Dutch charts yet, but was internationally successful.
The result was Schiffie & Co. – Bijna Beroemd (Schiffie Style), with various versions, even a hardstyle version.
It was the very first official Dutch version of Gangman Style
and was featured on Radio 3FM’s Koen & Sander Show.
In Carnival 2013, “De Pinguïntrein” (The Penguin Train) was released, but because I was experiencing serious back problems at the time (October 1, 2012 to September 1, 2013),
I was unable to perform and promote the song.
But don’t worry, I had recovered and was performing after Easter.
The Come-Back naturally had to be accompanied by a new single.
This became a song I wrote and recorded in 2008, but only finished in July 2012:
Schiffie & Co. feat. Dirk-Jan Deelen – Op De Kermis (On the Fair).
I had asked (and paid) Dirk-Jan to sing on the song, but I wrote it all myself.
Dirk-Jan Deelen was well-known at the time for his performances at “De Apres-Ski-Hut Rotterdam,”
later also for his participation in Idols (I forget the year) and, of course, his own singles.
At the end of 2014, the first dance single was released:
2-Friends (Schiffie and Ramon) ft. Yessi – Livin’ My Dream, (which had also been recorded in 2006).
Later, I had to change this act name because someone had already registered 2-Friends as a trademark.
So I changed the act name to 2-Sparks.
In Carnival 2015, two singles were released!
Schiffie & Co. – Tsjoeke Tjsakke (the Penguin Version), which scored very high in various carnival charts and on www.feestclips.nl, even reaching number 2.
and the second dance single from 2-Sparks ft. Yessi – My Fantasy. Since Yessi stopped singing dance music and chose a different path, leaving 2-Friends (later 2-Sparks),
I started looking for a new singer and a new style.
Summer 2015
I had found a new singer (Asha) and a new name:
2-Sparks, so the first single followed:
2-Sparks – Summer Vibes (with several remixes by both well-known DJs and regionally known DJs).
It performed well in various regional and dance/DJ charts, as well as on www.feestclips.nl. Unfortunately, Asha had to leave 2-Sparks because of her boss and sponsors,
because she is no longer allowed to do any external activities, outside of her Dance and Fitness School AnnaLuna,
with all understanding, as that is her regular job.
So I went back to looking for another singer. This was resolved in 2023 with the advent of AI, which I then started using.
The 2-Sparks website is: www.2-Sparks.com
It wasn’t until December 17, 2019, that Schiffie & Co. released a new single.
Back then, in the midst of the Corona/Covid-19 pandemic, at the request of schools and the record label BIP Records (again),
we wrote and recorded the song “De Handenwasshow” (The Hand Washing Show).
This song was declared Official Information Material for Covid-19 and General Hygiene by the then Belgian Minister of Education, Ben Weijts, and shortly thereafter by the European Union,
for:
Preschools, Kindergartens, and Primary Schools, and Animation Teams, Daycare Centers/Daycare Centers, etc.
in both Belgium and the Netherlands! and spent an impressive 26 weeks in the Belgian iTunes Top 100,
reaching a peak of number 5!
In 2021, a new Schiffie & Co. song was released. “Wapperen,” which spent three months in the Belgian iTunes Top 100,
reaching a peak of number 12.
In June, Textradio.be started producing two radio programs:
– Schiffie’s Hit Archive, featuring only number 1 hits from the official charts of the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, and the USA (American Billboard Hot 100).
+ 1 “Slider of the Week” = This isn’t a number 1 hit in the aforementioned countries, but it is a national or world hit. – H´t Faute Uhrtje with Schiffie, starts with new music, a Listening Tip of the Week, and a Bad Mega-Hit of the Week.
After that, it’s a bit of everything, from dance to rock, from oldies to contemporary, from pop to urban, but especially Sing-Alongs!!!
2024 The interest from other (internet) radio stations ensured that it’s also being played on several other stations.
This started at the end of 2023, but has now grown to no fewer than 16 radio stations! Many thanks to them and my listeners!
2025 A new Schiffie & Co. song will be released.
We’re keeping the title a secret for now, so we’ll have to wait a little longer.
I’m also working on other lyrics for Schiffie & Co.,
including a Sinterklaas/Pieten song and a Christmas song.
Of course, I hope you’ll enjoy my music as well!!!
And I hope to see you at a performance somewhere.
I also hope you enjoy my website: www.schiffie.com
Best regards from Schiffie
