Nicole Scherzinger has revealed that she pushed hard to perform a full number, rather than a short cameo, at this year’s Broadway Bares charity event — and the result was a standout moment for fans and fellow performers alike.
Broadway Bares is an annual fundraising event in New York City presented by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, combining high-energy choreography, theatricality, and community support to raise money for HIV/AIDS services.
The 2025 theme was “Come Out, Come Out,” with performances that mix glamour, drag, dance, and big production numbers.
When Scherzinger agreed to appear, the organisers initially offered her a small skit, which is common for celebrity guests.
But she wasn’t satisfied. Scherzinger insisted she perform “Buttons”, her hit from the Pussycat Dolls, live. “I actually fought to be on Broadway Bares … No, no, no, no — I’m performing, and I’m performing Buttons.”
Her motivation was not just showmanship — she says she wanted to “give back to the community” and make sure people remember her as the “queen Pussycat Doll,” delivering something true to her artistry.
Scherzinger’s performance of “Buttons” was part of a blockbuster lineup that included over 200 dancers. Her rendition used some of the original Pussycat Dolls choreography, showing she came ready — not just to participate, but to bring the full energy.
She was joined by her Sunset Boulevard castmates, tying in her Broadway momentum with her pop-history.
Critics and attendees praised her performance as one of the highlights of the evening.
The story underscores how committed Scherzinger remains to her artistry. She’s no longer content with just the guest spot — she wants her voice heard and her impact felt.
It also shows the importance of choice and agency, especially for artists known for being part of big groups or ensembles. Scherzinger running for this performance helps reclaim some of those moments.
And from a more charitable angle: performances like Broadway Bares use visibility to help raise funds and awareness. Bigger performances tend to draw more attention, more audience, more donations.
Nicole Scherzinger’s insistence on performing Buttons wasn’t just about prestige — it was a reminder: when it comes to giving, creating, and showing up, sometimes you have to push a little harder for what you believe you’re meant to do.
