Sabrina Carpenter Appears to Criticize Ex Barry Keoghan in New Single “Manchild”
Pop star Sabrina Carpenter has announced her new single “Manchild,” set for release on Thursday, June 5. Fans are speculating that the song is aimed at her ex-boyfriend, Irish actor Barry Keoghan. The teaser for the track shows Carpenter standing on the side of a road, dressed in denim shorts and a white blouse, as she attempts to hitchhike. She added the lyrics, “this one’s about you!!”
The title “Manchild” and its accompanying lyrics suggest criticism of a former partner. A snippet on the vinyl version reads, “Inside of your head when you’ve just won an argument with a man.” Fans interpret this as a direct reference to Keoghan, with whom Carpenter dated for a year before splitting in December 2024.
The collaboration between Carpenter and producer Jack Antonoff, known for their previous hit “Please Please Please”, seems to be bearing fruit again. “Manchild” promises to be a powerful addition to Carpenter’s repertoire, in which she processes her experiences and emotions into music.
“Manchild” will be available on all streaming platforms starting Thursday, June 5. Fans are eagerly awaiting the full release to discover exactly what message Carpenter conveys in this much-discussed track.
