Dua Lipa has officially become a citizen of Kosovo, the country where her family roots lie. The international pop star, who was born in London to Kosovar-Albanian parents, was granted citizenship in a special ceremony in Pristina.
President Vjosa Osmani personally presented the honor, praising Lipa for being a global ambassador of Kosovo through her music and activism. “She has brought worldwide attention to the struggles and beauty of our nation,” Osmani said.
An emotional Lipa took to social media to express her pride: “It feels like my two sides are now one. It’s such an honor to receive citizenship from a place that has always felt like home.”
Dua Lipa has long been vocal about her heritage. In 2018, she co-founded the Sunny Hill Festival in Pristina, a major music event that draws attention to Kosovo’s culture and youth. Her new citizenship marks a powerful moment in her journey of embracing identity and bridging cultures.
