Mariah Carey on royal encounters new music and the real life struggles of a superstarRoyal Encounters (With a Twist of Realness)
Mariah Carey recently offered a wry response when asked if she’d consider going to space like Katy Perry. Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills Breakfast Show, she initially reacted with surprise—“Did she go to space?”—before quipping, “I think I’ve done enough.” Her tongue-in-cheek remark has been interpreted by fans as a subtle nod to her legendary status, unbothered and deeply grounded here on Earth.

New Music & A Powerful Comeback
Fans have much to look forward to: Mariah’s sixteenth studio album, Here for It All, is set for release on September 26, 2025. She’s already released two singles—June’s “Type Dangerous”, produced alongside Anderson .Paak, and July’s “Sugar Sweet”, featuring Kehlani and Shenseea. The album promises a blend of heartfelt ballads and vibrant, summery tracks, reflecting her journey over the past decade as an artist and mother.

Behind the Glamour: Real-Life Struggles
In a candid Harper’s Bazaar UK interview, Carey revisited the complexities of her past marriage to music executive Tommy Mottola. She described feeling constrained, both personally and creatively, likening the experience to being a “child bride” stuck in a prison-like environment—and revealed that humor now helps her cope with the lingering anger.

Reflecting on fame and resilience, she also addressed her early career lows—Glitter and Charmbracelet—before her triumphant resurgence with The Emancipation of Mimi. The 20th anniversary edition of that pivotal album is out now, featuring unreleased tracks like the long-shelved “When I Feel It,” plus remixes and bonus content. Carey, nominated in 2025 for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, remains modest about the honor and even floated the possibility of releasing her unheard 90s grunge album someday.
