May 8, 2026 – Radio 854 Music News:
Taylor Swift’s legal team is pushing back hard against a trademark lawsuit filed by former Las Vegas performer Maren Flagg, calling the claims “absurd” and “meritless.”
The lawsuit centers around Swift’s 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl. Flagg — who performs under the name Maren Wade — claims the title infringes on her trademarked brand “Confessions of a Showgirl,” which she has used for cabaret performances, a column and other entertainment projects since 2015.
In new court filings, Swift’s attorneys argued there is virtually no chance that fans would confuse a globally successful Taylor Swift album with Flagg’s smaller-scale cabaret brand. The legal team said the two projects operate in completely different entertainment spaces and accused the plaintiff of attempting to benefit from Swift’s fame and publicity.
Swift’s lawyers also questioned why Flagg waited months after the album announcement before requesting emergency legal action. According to the filing, Flagg allegedly began increasing social media activity around the phrase “The Life of a Showgirl” only after Swift’s album became a major success.
The dispute began earlier this year after the U.S. Trademark Office reportedly rejected Swift’s own trademark application due to similarities with Flagg’s existing registration. Despite that, Swift’s team insists the case should never have been filed in the first place.
No trial date has been announced yet, but the legal battle is expected to continue in the coming months as both sides prepare further responses.
